Yes! My husband is a Drill Sergeant!
And the main reason I created this tab was because I know there are lots of questions out there that soon to be, or new Drill Wives have.
First Id like to recommend you join the Drill Wives FB page.
I am an admin on this page along with a few others from different posts where
Drill Sergeants serve their tours.
You can get all kinds of local information about your next duty station as well as support.
Here is the link.
I guess one of the biggest questions I get asked is,
"What is the Trail like? Will I ever see him?"
The trail is described as many things, good and bad, but I can only tell you my experience.
The trail is a 9 week course, with each three weeks being called phases.
There is Red Phase, Blue Phase and White Phase.
Red Phase is when the "shark attack" happens, which is where the DS pick up the new troops.
Some batteries allow the spouses to come and watch, some batteries don't, so I would ask before just showing up. In the Red Phase, authority is being established, expectations are being known and there is 100% accountability. This means your husband or wife will come home with a hoarse voice, very tired, and very late. The typical red cycle hours are from 0400-2200.
The GREAT thing about this phase, is your DS will come home with HALARIOUS stories!
Blue Phase, things start to become a little relaxed, and slowly some responsibilities are being turned over to soldiers. Your DS will still be tired and the hours are from around 0400-2000.
White Phase, is more relaxed, but there are some over night trips to the field for FTX.
My husbands battery, the DS rotate who stays out in the field with the soldiers, so your DS might not be staying all three nights out there.
Then its graduation!! Then reset. Then a few weeks of him coming home at a decent hour and then the cycle starts all over again.
DS still have CQ duty.
They still have to maintain physical fitness.
And you make an extra $375.00 as a special duty pay.
The Drill Life is not that bad as long as you do not have unrealistic expectations of your DS.
I like to pretend he is deployed, and do not count on him to be places, or participate in things.
That way, if he can, its a bonus.
